The early 1990s was a special time in the history of R&B for male vocal groups and one of my favorites is After 7. Kevon Edmonds, Melvin Edmonds and Keith Mitchell were the original After 7 members. The Edmonds brothers are the siblings of singer-songwriter-producer Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds“ who actually created the group along with L.A. Reid. Still today, Babyface writes and produces most of After 7’s music.
Their debut self-titled album had the single “Ready or Not” which climbed the billboard charts to the #1 position on R&B while their single “Can’t Stop” came in at #6 on billboards Hot 100 Pop Charts. The first release from their 1989 debut album, “Heat Of The Moment” was a Top Ten Single on the Urban Charts and also gained a solid position on the Pop Charts. After 7’s success continued through the years with more hits like the single “Nights Like This”, from the movie soundtrack, “The Five Heartbeats”.
Now 20 years after their last project together, Kevon and Keith have joined together with Melvin’s son, Jason, to show their fans that the After 7 sound is still strong if not stronger and more relevant than before. Some of songs from the Timeless album include “I Want You”, “Loving You All My Life”, “If I”, “Let Me Know” and many others. Enjoy “Let Me Know” below.
