There was an unexpected drop from Beyoncé for fans. The song titled Black Parade, dropped as a Juneteenth surprise as people around the US celebrated the June 19, 1865 date which marked the end of slavery in the United States. The release date was especially deliberate, coming from the Texas artist. The commemoration relates directly to the day the enslaved in Texas were finally informed of their freedom, two-and-a-half years after the Emancipation Proclamation.
“Happy Juneteenth Weekend!” Beyoncé wrote on Instagram. “I hope we continue to share joy and celebrate each other, even in the midst of struggle. Please continue to remember our beauty, strength and power.”
